Geothermal is simply the heat stored in Earth, composed of mineral water, steam and gases. Geothermal Energy is heat energy that is clean and sustainable.
Energy created from geothermal power is safe, clean, simple, reliable and environment friendly as it is extracted from deep within the earths surface. But despite these advantages, geothermal energy is not being used widely.
Geothermal energy is used to generate electricity, or geothermal heat is used directly for applications such as space heating, aquaculture, and industrial processes.
The largest group of geothermal power plants in the world is located at The Geysers, a geothermal field in California, United States. As of 2004, five countries (El Salvador, Kenya, Philippines, Iceland, and Costa Rica) generated more than 15% of their electricity from geothermal sources. Currently one the countries to join this elite group with abundance of reserves is Turkey.
